Hi! My name is Adam Mayon, and piano has been the center of my life for more than twenty years. I’m originally from Morgan City, a small town in south Louisiana; it was there that I met a very talented local piano teacher who instilled the love of music within my heart. Today, I not only perform around the U.S. but also strive to uncover the same passion and dedication for music in my own students as my very first piano teacher discovered within me.
Though my pianistic journey remains young, I have been recognized nationally with prizes in the National Division of the Music Teachers National Association Young Artist Competition and the NFMC Young Artist Competition. I hold degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Loyola University New Orleans, and I recently completed my Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music with the continued guidance of Dr. Soyeon Kate Lee.
In addition to my pianistic interests, I pursue a lifelong passion for physical fitness. As a certified personal trainer and avid powerlifter, I have developed individualized fitness programs for aspiring musicians and athletes. Most of my research includes finding direct correlations between fitness and music; my most current project appeared in the MTNA e-Journal publication, entitled “Warming Up for the Warm-Up: A Case for Cardio Before Scales.”
I continue to be active in my community by participating in local music organizations. I serve on the board of the Southwest Ohio Music Teachers Association as Treasurer, and I aim to encourage my students to participate in many music festivals around the area such as the Queen City Music Festival and the Auditions Festival (held at CCM).
If there is one thing I would like all current and future Piano Sensei students and parents to realize is that taking piano lessons is not just about learning piano. Piano lessons enrich students with the wonderful vitality and spirit of music, instill self-discipline and self-motivation, and embolden creativity and imagination.
